IBA Pipe Pro 2012

The tours all kick off simultaneously on the palm clad Island of Oahu with the Pipe Pro set to launch Feb 10th - 25th 2012.

Once again this will be an IBA Grand Slam event for Men, Women and DK and will be the launching pad for another action packed season for the IBA.

Pipe is the perfect setting for the open of the 2012 season. An iconic and famous wave, the Banzai Pipeline is often referred to as the best wave on the planet. Known for its faultless, heaving top-to-bottom barrels and its close proximity to shore, not only is it the perfect wave for those willing to challenge its ferocity, but its also a spectacle for the live audience on the beach.

Part of the attraction of Pipeline is that with the impeccability comes consequence. Pipeline is one of the most dangerous waves on the planet. It has claimed more lives than any other wave in the world, in fact one fatality a year, on average.

The cause of danger, a shallow slab of reef with crevasses and coral heads that lies just inches under the water, but its these same rock formations that create the shape and structure of the wave.

This years Pipe contest will be bigger and better then ever with an extra day of competition allowing for the expansion of the WWT & DKWT events to 32.

The Men’s GSS event will feature a field of 112.

Pipe has long been the holy grail of International bodyboarding and a massive rollup of the worlds best is expected for the event.

The compulsory event check-in will be on Friday 10th February in the Ehukai Beach Parkand the trials will be held the following morning either on the East at Sandy Beach or the West side depending on conditions.

In the Men’s division 96 seeded riders will be placed into the main event with the remaining 16 spots up for grabs in the trials creating an overall field of 112.

The WWT event will seed 24 riders with 2 wildcards and 6 trialists creating an overall field of 32.

The DKWT event will seed 16 riders with 8 wildcards and 8 trialists creating an overall field of 32.

The entry for the 2012 Pipe Pro will be electronic with ALL competitors set to register and pay online at www.ibaworldtour.com

2011 will always be remembered as a “Before & After” moment in Bodyboarding with the sport rising to new heights thanks to new formats, exciting new locations, professional webcasts and slick media presentations.

If you thought that was good, wait till you see what the team at IBA Tour has planned for 2012!
