Zicatela,Thursday 4th October – Hawaiian Jeff Hubbard has won the IBA TURBO ZICATELA PRO 2012 in flawless 6-8 foot surf at Puerto Escondido today. Hubbard defeated 6x World Champion Guilherme Tamega (BRA) with a high flying air roll and deep barrels in the final to claim his second Zicatela Pro title.
The 2 x World Champion fell victim in the non-elimination Round 4 of the event, but taking the longer road to the final did not slow down the hungry Hawaiian. Hubbard took down Australian super talent Mitch Rawlins in Round 6 this morning and managed to keep his momentum, topping Magno Passos (BRA) in the quarterfinals and current World Champion Pierre-Louis Costes in the semifinal. Guilherme Tamega was looking strong thought the event, defeating an inform Mark McCarthy (ZAF) in the quarterfinal and current ratings leader Dave Winchester (AUS) in the semifinal, but could not match Hubbard’s aerial antics in the final.
Today Tamega bagged his third 2nd place finish of 2012, making it clear that he is hungry for a seventh world title. Winchester’s 3rd place finish has helped him improve on his current points, but with the other three semifinalists also drastically improving on their points, the world title race has heated up between the top four seeds and will be decided at the Encanto World Series in Puerto Rico or possibly the final event of 2012, the Fronton Pro scheduled for 7-16th of December in the Canary Islands.

After one of the worst starts to the season Puerto Escondido has ever seen,
this August swell came and lifted our spirits and souls.
I’m grateful that I got a chance to witness the swell especially on the afternoon of Sunday, August 5th.
Thank you ocean, thank you Mexico, and thank you all the the viewers for the support!
The footage is mainly from the last swell (August 3-7) and a couple additions from July.
Enjoy,
Noam

“A noble effort to “Save Puerto” has been effective enough so far for organizers to commit to staging the event in late September. IBA have confirmed that the campaign has secured enough base funding to stage a basic Men’s GSS event.
The new dates are September 27th to October 6th.
IBA Tour manager Terry McKenna is ecstatic about the result and is looking forward to another epic event in Puerto Escondido.
“Last year was amazing” said McKenna “At this point we have a bare-bones event confirmed but we need more support from the fraternity to include a webcast and some of the trimmings that we have come to expect from the existing GSS events”
Head of the IBA Gregg Taylor elaborates on the campaign.
“The primary purpose of the Salvemos Puerto campaign was to use the IBA event to provide a spark to the local economy in Puerto Escondido and this has been achieved, though further funding is required via the IBA Salvemos Puerto campaign to secure a global live webcast of the event to raise the awareness of ongoing challenges the Puerto Escondido community are facing and to bring the action to the screens of the global Bodyboarding community. Additional funding will also be used for the donation to the local lifeguards and Puerto Escondido community.” said Taylor.
Entry details for the event will be available soon.” – IBA

The town of Puerto Escondido was devastated by Hurricane Carlotta on Friday 15th June, 2012.
Two children died when their house was taken by a mudslide, and one 56-year-old woman passed away when the wind from the Category 2 Hurricane flipped her car. The beach side town has been severely damaged and is in need of urgent assistance to rebuild this community that thrives on tourism.
